Sydney, the city of excess, the succulent, juicy capital of NYE celebrations will get a little more heated this year as we come to town to celebrate the occasion at Purple Sneakers House Party with first-time visitors to our shores UK acts The Boxer Rebellion and Baddies, USA’s tornado of awesome, Ponytail and LA’s head hipster and leader of the indie DJs, Franki Chan. Summer was gorgeous and grand. Well at least it was for us. We were pregnant with anticipation for our sophomore album to be released in North America. Finally, the time has come to birth 'Teeth Lost, Hearts Won' to these great peoples. Actually here's a story, a true story, last friday night we played *ahem brag alert* a sold out show at The Mercury Lounge in NYC. A pregnant woman just entering her second trimester timidly came along, she was worried people would frown on her 'going to a rock show in that condition'. However, she came along, saw no frowns AND the baby kicked for the FIRST time, ever, while we were on stage. In time with the beat too. Pretty special. She said she's going to be playing 'Teeth Lost, Hearts Won' in the delivery room. They let you do that y'know. Oh yeah, you can play any sorta music you want.
 
THE BIRTH : Once again, 'Teeth Lost, Hearts Won' will be released this upcoming September 15th. Don't forget to not mark it on your calendars. Or not put a reminder in your iPhones. Or not write it down the bottom of your mom's shopping list. Or not tell your grandparents. Or not tell your BFF.

We are knee deep in tour and let me tell you, it's a cracker! Brisbane was one of the most intense and excitable crowd we've ever had the pleasure of playing to. And we weren't alone in those thoughts....

"Yeah, that was really fun, there were so many people" - DZ's thoughts on Brisbane (DZ are such a great band. You should buy your Mum their demo for Mothers Day).

and Canberra was a curve ball, selling our days before we arrived, they pretty much slayed any preconceptions I had of a Canberra audience!

"That was awesome" - Johnny Children Collide on Canberra (BTW it's actually really confusing going on tour with two Johns. Especially now that John Grates also answers to Johnny).

We are super pumped to get ourselves to a town near you so better get your tickets now for Adelaide, Melbourne and Hobart as we have sold out all other shows and there's limited tickets left in each of those cities! Woo Hoo!

We begin intensive practice tomorrow in preparation for our 'Biggest And Longest Adventure Ever Tour', so as you can imagine, we're all very nervous. Not about the tour, about the preparation for tour. Preparing must be thorough and scary! That way you know no matter what happens on tour, no matter what gets thrown your way (be it dagger, dog or human), or how little sleep you get, that you will not once have a poop in your pants. It is important that your pants (and you only get one lucky pair to wear the whole time) remain unsoiled and unspoiled. Which is a hard thing to do especially when you get told you've got your first SELL OUT! Yes, Brisbane is sooooold oooooout & other cities aren't far off so don't wait too long to get tix :)

MIDDLE: I'm not sure if you are familiar with the GFC (Grates Fever Cat, d'uh) but America pretty much asked us to come and save them from it. Fri, 27 Feb 2009 12:00:00 -0900 Today as I was doing my morning internet business, you know the sort, coffee, email and your favourite blog, I noticed my inbox filling up rapidly with emails. This is normal cos I have a lot of business I need to attend to (and am on a lot of mailing lists for things I have lost interest in, like Facebook for example. No I'm kidding, how could anyone lose interest in a social networking site?) BUT one email was v.v. important. The email telling me that the Fire And Flood benefit gig we're playing next week with Powderfinger, Robert Forster, The  John Steel Singers, The Boat People and Dan Parsons sold out in minutes this morning.

Australians have already given so much to the cause and continue to give. I can only imagine that the Sound Relief concerts in Melbourne and Sydney are going to have the same response.

So good on you if you bought a ticket, good on you if you gave to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal or the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal, good on you if you've helped those in need. This is a wonderful response! Thanks for being a part of it.

We are proud, proud panthers, having been nominated for a prestigious and joyful 'J Award' earlier this week. The J Award is triple j's award for Australian album of the year. It's super kick-arse to be nominated with past winners being Wolfmother, Hilltop Hoods and The Panics. All great examples of great Australian bands. RING OF JUSTICE

The mighty tambourine is often overlooked but vital when used correctly in a chorus. Ours was no different. It was won by John and Alana in a band competition almost 8 years ago & travelled with The Grates on tours to perform special percussion duties. It all came to an end recently at a gig in Melbourne, when one over excited fan took off with it. Eaten alive by guilt the fan dobbed himself in to national youth radio station triple j. As part of Australian Music Month the triple j breakfast crew were traveling around Australia for 'Reach Around Australia'. Lovingly, they carried the tambourine on their adventures to be returned to us in Brisbane. We now feel the tambourine is no longer our tambourine, it's Australia's tambourine! It's a 'ring of truth and justice!'
 
The Auction is closing Monday 17th November. Money raised from the highest bidder will go towards a charity called The Song Room who specialise in giving long-term, free and tailored music programs to disadvantaged children who would otherwise not have such opportunities.

Lovingly, they carried the tambourine on their adventures to be returned to us in Brisbane. We now feel the tambourine is no longer our tambourine, it's Australia's tambourine! It's a 'ring of truth and justice!'

 

We will be auctioning the tambourine throughout the coming week! Money raised from the highest bidder will go towards a charity called The Song Room who specialise in giving long-term, free and tailored music programs to disadvantaged children who would otherwise not have such opportunities.

Life goals. We had a few... tour the country, get people to our gigs, make an album, co-host rage (we will do that!), cut a vinyl. CUT A VINYL! Yes, that is correct. Teeth Lost, Hearts Won in classic format is due out this Saturday. Pre-order it here at JB Hifi  And remember, if you have a rocking chair, you're already half way cool.

 

After a splendid 24 hours in Byron Bay a few weeks ago we walked away with a new video clip for our song "Aw Yeah". If you like us, people in sombreros, donkeys, wolf men, gold body suits and the blessed evening sky I suggest you get a cool drink cos it will send your heart racing. Channel V have nominated us for their 'Channel V Oz Artist Of The Year Awards'. There are heaps of prizes to be won. In fact you have it better as a voter than as a nominee! Voting puts you in the draw to win prizes. Prizes are awesome! One prize is flights, accomodation and 4 VIP tickets to Homebake. Being nominated puts you in the draw to shake hands with Ruby Rose. We have embarked on our National Tour and things are going swimmingly. In fact they are going better than swimmingly, we're practically surfing...  I mean besides a few minor head injuries but they come with the territory right?!

Our shows so far have been heaps of fun and I think word is starting to get around cos we have now sold out shows in Adelaide, Perth, (as well as the 1st Melbourne and Sydney shows) and are very close to selling out the second Melbourne show.
